When you think of environment crusaders from India, some names immediately spring to mind: Medha Patkar, Sundarlal Bahuguna, perhaps evern Maneka Gandi. But there are a lot many more unsung heroes of the environment in India.

Have you heard of Billy Arjan Singh, J Vijaya, Prosper Marak or Harish Hande. Chances are, you have not  (some more of the India's unsung ecoheroes/heorines from here). But these folks have (or had) created in their own way a creditable revolution.

And trust me, there are many thousands more of these, doing what they love without really expecting you and me to help them. Yet, I strongly feel that the government and the society (that's you and me) should do something to motivate these folks in material as well as intangible forms. It could be supporting what they do financially, or at the very least by spreading the word about their good deed so that someone else who could afford to promote their activities could.

How do you feel these unsung eco-entrepreneurs could be nurtured, promoted and awarded? Your thoughts are welcome.
