Will Humans ever invent\create new plant life?

I sometimes wonder if humankind will ever invent\create new plant life. Such as if an apple tree never existed in the first place or went extinct eons ago, if we could develop\invent an apple seed which would create this new wondrous fruit. There must be some delicious fruit or vegetable out there we are missing out on. Such as an avocangerine.
